All members of the Garden State Underwater Recovery Unit are unpaid volunteers. We typically average 25 or so members but the size of our roster varies from year to year. There are many challenges to volunteer organizations today, (see [1], [2], and [3]), and our organization is not immune to these problems. We seek new members who can bring their energy, skills, and enthusiasm to help us continue our mission. Although many of our members have advanced diving skills, we do not require that all of our members be divers. People can contribute in other ways such as operating boats and sonar equipment, assisting with building and vehicle maintenance, and performing documentation and clerical duties.
